We have all longed, at one time or another, for that magical moment when a soulmate appears. We wait for destiny to strike and hope that we will be on time and not miss the meeting with the person we sometimes mistakenly believe should be our one and only soulmate. It happened to me many years ago.
Our eyes met across the room. Magnetized, we continued to stare at each other until we had the courage to leave our friends at the party and find a quiet place to talk. For the next three months, Jama and I, soulmates from a previous life, spent many weekends together as we traveled back and forth between our college campuses where each of us was finishing up work before we departed for other continents.
At the time, as a nineteen-year-old, I didn’t fully understand what was happening. I just “knew” that I knew Jama. I was so comfortable with him, even though he was from a different race, religion, and culture. There was a sense of unconditional love and understanding between us. We didn’t need a lot of words, for soulmate recognition often transcends the mind’s chatter and goes straight to the heart.
Three months later I left for Paris and he returned to Somalia. We never communicated again. It wasn’t necessary. There was no sadness or attachment in the parting. Years later I discovered that I had been his mother in a past life in East Africa. It seemed that we just needed to check in and wish each other well, knowing that our karmic destinies in our present lives would lead us in different directions. I have recently learned that he is deceased and I look forward to our reunion in Spirit.
Learning about Soulmates from my mentor Dr. Brian Weiss
This first soulmate encounter taught me a great deal about unconditional love and non-attachment. When I later read Only Love Is Real: A Story of Soulmates Reunited by my mentor, Dr. Brian Weiss, I understood more. As Dr. Weiss comments, “Relationships are not measured in time, but in lessons learned.”
In my work as a past life regression therapist and psychic intuitive, I frequently encounter clients who are longing to meet THE soulmate. They imagine this to be a powerfully charged romantic relationship with Prince Charming or the Woman of their Dreams who just happens to be presently available, the right age, and perfect. They will meet and live happily ever after. I have come to realize that there is a lot of misconception and misinformation about the soulmate experience.
Who are Our Soulmates?
Soulmates are people who are eternally bonded by their love for each other. They reincarnate again and again to be together. The relationships may change from lifetime to lifetime. A soulmate may return as a mother, father, sibling, son, daughter, husband, wife, teacher, friend…. Soulmates may experience extreme hardships, painful separations, and traumatic deaths together, but the love endures. We often travel with a group of soulmates sometimes weaving into and out of each other’s lives.
Past Lives Reveal Dangerous “Soulmate” Attractions
There are times, also, when we meet someone and experience a sense of foreboding. We intuitively recognize this person from a past life. We think, because we know them, that we should be “soulmates” together again in this lifetime. Dr. Weiss shares the experience of Elizabeth, who has a pattern of being attracted to “losers, abusers and other toxic partners.” She discovers through a past life regression that George, the man she is currently dating, has been her abusive husband in another lifetime. This time she has the strength and self-respect to end her relationship with him.
When past-life origins are discovered, it is easier to break destructive relationship patterns with those whom we mistakenly feel are soulmates we must reunite with. We don’t always marry our most strongly bonded soulmates. Sometimes our most cherished soulmates will not marry us in a lifetime because there are lessons to be learned from another soul group member whom we have karmic agreements with. I chose to have my only child in my present life with a man I had been married to before in a destitute lifetime in medieval France. In that life I died in childbirth from extreme malnutrition and poverty. He and I made a karmic agreement to reincarnate and birth a healthy child together, although we were unable to sustain a healthy marriage.
Working with a Cherished Soulmate at the Lighthouse
My precious daughter Sarah is named for my dearest soulmate Sarah Gilliam, who was my wife in my male slave lifetime in colonial America.(see previous blogpost) In this lifetime I met her when I was a depressed and frustrated recent college graduate, not knowing what direction to take in my life. She became my closest friend and mentor, helping me through two karmic marriages to men I had challenging relationships with.
Upon her death in 2001, she asked me to carry on her work, as she was a gifted psychic and spiritual counselor. We work together now in The Lighthouse. My clairvoyant clients see and feel her presence. Our loved ones continue to be with us in their spiritual bodies when they are no longer physically alive to us, soulmates forever.

I would like to know more about a young boy I cared for in a past life.
Hi Marie, Thanks for your post. How can I help you? Do you know this young boy now in a present life? I’m not sure what you are seeking. You can call me at 413-274-0286 for a free 20 minute phone consultation if you’d like to talk further.
I come from a very spiritual family and very much understand soulmates as well as a twin flame. I can relate and say I have been in a very toxic relationship whom I found out from a medium he and I have been together many lives. The one she spoke of was a life we had together In Egypt. She had spoke of his infidelity in that lifetime and how he has carried on those same traits through multiple embodiments. In out relationship I just couldn’t trust him and my gut never sat right. Just like previous lives he played games and entertained multiple women. In this life I decided that I did not want to be tied to him and decided to let him go after a toxic 10 year on and off again relationship.
Thanks for sharing your story. It’s good that you trust your intuition, your “gut”, and know when to leave a toxic relationship. I also feel that it’s important to discover your past lives yourself, ideally with a trained and certified past life regression therapist. That way, you go to the most important past life memories for whatever issues you are dealing with in your present life. When someone tells you what they think one of your past lives is it’s informational but not necessarily therapeutic. Discovering your own memories, reliving and releasing them, is where the profound and lasting healing and inner peace comes from.
Keep up the good work. Love yourself more and more everyday so that you send out a strong signal that abusers are NOT welcome in your life!
I would love to know about my soulmates in past lives.
Would you like to discover your past life soulmates by experiencing a past life regression? I’d love to discuss the benefits of past life regression therapy with you, including connecting with your soul group members who travel together through lifetimes. E-mail or call me at 413-274-0286 and we can chat.
I have been very moved by reading your blog and your references to Dr Brian Weiss. I am of African Descent and have been drawn to Africa for my entire life. I have also been obsessed with slavery so much so that I suspect I was enslaved in a past life. I would like to communicate with you directly.

I have found deep healing and unconditional love with my cats over the past 30 years. They teach me so many spiritual lessons and lessons on healing both self and others. Can animals be our soul mates?
Animals can have a very deep bond with us. I do feel that they can make karmic agreements to be with us and teach us and contribute to our well being. As a psychic medium I often deliver messages from pets in the spirit world, especially dogs and cats, who had a close bond with their human “soul mates”. They even show me the personalities and attitudes they had when they were incarnated. They also teach us how to let go when they are dying, as they usually have shorter lifespans than their human companions. They give us so much. What a blessing that you’ve had such wonderful cats in your life.
Hi Carole, I did a past life regression once that was really interesting but i wasn’t able to tap into any soulmate relationships, which I was really hoping for. I’m currently married & having my second child.. I have wondered about the past life connection with my husband based on the lessons and growth that we’ve had individually & as a couple. We struggle but work well at the same time. I also wonder about another man that I had an intense connection with years ago.
Thanks for your comments. We’ve had many past lives; when you have a past life regression session with a trained therapist, you can create the intention to go back to a life with one of your soulmates. However, your subconscious mind will help you to choose the lives that need to be revealed to you in any given session for your continued growth. I’d love to work with you and support you in discovering the past lives that you have had with your husband or other significant people in your life.
I have enjoyed the moment when I recognize another that I sense I have been connected to in other lifetimes and it fascinates me how comfortable it feels to be with them in this lifetime. You mention your daughter. Is it always true that your children are part of your soul family?
Thanks for your comments. People take on various roles from lifetime to lifetime within a soul group and across soul groups. I don’t feel that our children in our present lives are in all of our past lives as children or in other roles. Michael Newton‘s books Journey of Souls and Destiny of Souls have interesting discussions about our soul families or groups. Have you read his books?
What is your opinion about whether or not our souls can take non-human forms (such a pet) to help us with karmic lessons and can they be our “soulmates?”
Cross species reincarnation is an interesting concept. However, I’ve conducted more than a thousand regressions, read extensively from the work of other practitioners, and I don’t see any evidence of people reincarnating as animals and vice versa. Hinduism may have a different philosophy about this but no one has ever regressed to an animal past life when working with me. However, I do feel that we can bond deeply with our pets and learn from them.
I believe in soul mates and that they can be friends, relatives and lovers. I do believe we are all here for a reason and sometimes you just “know” who you are meant to spend your time with. I believe my soul mates are my friends and that there is someone I am suppose to marry in this life, maybe I’ve met him in a previous life, or maybe I’m here to teach whoever he is a lesson in this life.
I am interested in past lives, I believe I am a very old soul and I also know when people that have passed are around me
Thanks for your comments, Jude. Past Lives are fascinating. Call me if you’d like to talk about your interest in past lives some more and your sensitivity to the spiritual world.
There are two people that I have a meaningful relationship with in this lifetime who I think are both soulmates in different ways. It would be interesting to explore what our past karma is, I am sure it would make the current relationship dynamics much clearer. A lot of learning has happened, at least for me, with each of them, I just wonder why there had to be so much pain.
We grow from the pain, too. Soulmates will even agree to challenge us to accelerate our growth. When I have experienced pain it has given me more compassion for myself and the one I experienced the pain with. Also, we may be balancing the karma in this lifetime from when we caused another pain in a previous life. I have very personal experience with this. When I felt betrayed by a lover in this lifetime, I discovered a past life in which I had betrayed him. It was much easier to forgive him, knowing that I had already caused him hurt and betrayal in that lifetime. That’s one of the benefits of discovering past lives. It can give us a lot of insight into our present relationships and bring us more inner peace, no matter the outer circumstances.
Keep on loving and forgiving yourself, Aaliyah, as you extend that grace to others in your life.
I have had and continue to have more than one soul mate in my life. Some have been with me since birth, others introduced to me well into my adult years. I recognize them by how they make me feel in their presence and how I long to be with them when we are apart. We are all familiar with soul mates but is there such a thing as a soul place? A place where you have unexpectedly felt a sudden sense of peace, happiness and belonging? A place where you long to replicate the experience from your initial discovery in this life? I have had two such experiences, both in a different place, but the same country and I long for that feeling again. These two places I hold in my heart today because of the experience. I think of them and bring myself back there in my mind regularly.
Thanks for your beautiful and thoughtful comments. I wonder if your “soul place” is in a country where you have experienced past lives and that you have pleasant memories there. There are places that just make our heart sing, perhaps because of the beauty there and that we feel at peace. It’s an interesting concept and I love the term “soul place”. I’d love others to comment about this, and share how you feel about a “soul place.”
My husband and I both agree that we have, and had since the day we met, an odd connection. Almost as if we’d known each other forever. We connect, understand each other, and know each other on a level that I never imagined knowing another person. Both of us joke that we must have been close in another life. My father and I also had a deep connection, I was born to my best friend, we finished each others sentences and when he passed I felt like my twin was gone (and still do). Maybe I’m lucky to have had two soulmates! 🙂
What a blessing that you have such a deep awareness and appreciation of your soulmate connections, Jamie. Spread your blessings around and share the light that you are.
I have a Home Instead gal coming in once a week for a few hours. She says she prayed to get a “nice lady”, as I was her first assignment. We felt comfortable with one another immediately, and she says we are soul mates–not like mother and daughter, although there is an age difference, but she says “sisters”. We always have a good time together, lots of hugs and laughter.
I did some regressions with you, and in one, I was a young male, and the person I consider like a daughter in this life was my sweetheart. It would be interesting to do more.
It’s great to hear from you. I’m glad that you want to explore more of your past lives. We are all blessed to have many relationships through lifetimes that give us an opportunity to grow and to love. How wonderful that you and your “Home instead gal” have such a meaningful connection.
With love, light and gratitude,
I am a Hindu with a very open mind. I have been ardent reader of subjects like UFO, the Vedas, astral projections and other subjects that people stay away from. I have a strong belief in afterlife and rebirth, because I have travelled to many places and felt having been there, know all the streets, eating places etc. Sometimes I turn away from certain individuals because I think they are evil. I also have had success in poker, because I knew what the next card on the deck is, or know I am going to win from the start, and to back off when necessary. Hence I quit playing poker as I felt I had an unfair advantage over my friends. I am even able to read people’s minds at times. I am 65 now and have come back from death three times. Once after a heart Attack, in 1994, again during a bypass operation in 2001 and from a coma after 3 days, caused by a collapse of my lungs. I always help people willing without expecting anything in return, do not think money is everything, communicate well with children and have this feeling that I have not accomplished a task given assigned to me by my almighty.
Recently, I lost both my legs due to amputations, but I am healthy and still smiling.
During the treatment of my wounds, I met a lady nurse who seems mesmerised by my mannerisms and likes to sit and chat with me. She is single and each time she leaves me, she hugs me and I have a strange feeling in me. I am not a flirt and have been married to the same woman for the past 42 years and we have 2 grown up children who are married. My Wife has been asking me to go away from her as I am of no use to her since a year ago. Yet when this nurse comes to see me, she is disturbed. This nurse is always Glad to see me and has taken me out for lunch twice and tea once. We seem to like each other and feel comfortable in each other’s presence. Could she have been my soulmate in a past life? She is middle aged. Please advise me. Thank you. Have a nice day.
My apologies for this delayed response. I have been without a laptop for a month and I’m behind in my office work! Please call me if you would like to discuss your experiences and feelings further. I would be happy to talk with you. USA Eastern Standard Time 413-274-0286
I saw a picture of someone and had this instant feeling that i knew them and loved them before but at that time i didnt know anything about reincarnation.
Would you like to know more, Taylor? I’d be happy to discuss this with you if you’d like to call me at 413-274-0286.
Hi. I’m a 47 year old South American woman from a Slavic family. I’m saying this for nothing in my family or ancestors is even loosely related to Asia. I have the strong conviction that I have had at least 4 past lives because my tastes, preferences and even phobias do not relate in the least to my upbringing, cultural background or even to the continent I was born in. As concerns the soul mate in particular, when I was 7 years old I told my parents that one day I would marry a Japanese man. They were puzzled of course but I was adamant in my statement. At that time, my geographical reference was Japan, but later would I learn that China, Korea and Mongolia also existed, whose peoples share a quite similar phenotype, to my eyes at least. At that time, though, Japan was my only reference. Nowadays I know that the scope covers those four countries. Since that early age I’ve had a strong preference for all that comes from that area of the globe. What is even worse, I have the vivid memory of a face, like branded in my brain, of an Asia man, slanted eyes, straight black hair, an intense look in his eyes. A face I’ve never actually seen in real life. During these last 40 years this face has never faded from my memory. I am a lowsy drawer but if I could draw properly, I would have made an identikit of this man already. His face has not changed with the decades, he is a handsome Oriental man in his thirties or forties, and I have the strong feeling he was very dearly to me. He is looking straight at me and I can even hear his voice. I also feel we have loved each other deeply and were sorrowly parted from one another. I also sense our relationship was not an easy one. I have been growing increasingly anxious lately, and he appears before my eyes quite often. This is not a passing phase; I’ve had had his face in my brain for four decades. I am completely sure he exists, but where to find him??? I am a married woman (my husband is not from Asia, of course), a professional and a mother myself, and yet, I do feel THE man of my life has not yet arrived, that he is somewhere there, in this big world. And that he is from Asia. Besides, I’ve been told I have master numbers 65/11. I am also a very intuitive person and the person who told me my numbers also told me that my intuition is probably right. Yet, I am restless, with his face getting in the way, and I feel strangely anguished, like I do need to find him, stressed and worried, as if time was of the essence… all very uncommon for I am a very stable and optimistic person.
Thank you for reading me.
Thank you for sharing your story, Nadia. Soulmates sometimes make the sacrifice of not being together in a lifetime because we have karmic lessons with others who are less bonded to us. You may not meet him in this lifetime as he is presenting himself to you. Perhaps during a past life regression you may gain greater understanding of who he is.
There’s is a man I have encountered on and off for the past 6 years. I initially felt like I didn’t like him when I first saw him the first few times we were in the same space together. I didn’t understand why I had a strong dislike for him because I didn’t know him. The past two years, when I ran into him at Starbucks, I felt different, had an attraction and felt a pull in my heart area and I also felt sad when he left the room. I frequent the gym and two ladies who take Zumba with me thought I would make a good couple with their friend. My two coworkers on two different occasions have tried to fix me up with a man that they consider a great guy. It turned out to be the guy I run into a lot. Last year was a face to face emcountet and I felt completely drawn to him and felt like his energy around him was familiar to me. I also see an aura around him like a white light around him. I also felt a magnetic pull towards him and it was intense. What’s really interesting is I have this feeling like something big is going to happen and that’s when I run into him at Starbucks, a work rally, and at the gym. Do I know him from a past life or do I have personal karma to clear with him? I’ve also seen repeating numbers like 11:11, 2:22, 3:33, 5:55, 4:44 but the first numbers were 9:11. I’ve been seeing white butterflies and am finding feathers too.
Thanks for sharing your interesting story about being attracted to this gentleman. Yes, it’s possible that you do recognize him from a past life. I’d love to talk more with you about this. Please call me at 413-274-0286 if you’d like a free phone consultation to discover if delving into your past lives might help you to understand this attraction and how it may guide you in the future.
Hello there. Really interesting post.
There is this man who lives in another country. I first found out about him some years ago and we have more than 10 years age difference. For some reason, I cannot forget of that person, I feel so attached, even though he is a stranger. But I cannot get close to that person. I did date someone else before but still, I had that person on my mind. He is also quite lonely and even though he is older, he is not married and have kids. And also, me and him have many ‘coincidences’/connections.
Could there be a past life connection or is it just some fascination in my mind?
Thanks for your post. You might want to read “Only Love Is Real” by Dr. Brian Weiss to get some perspective on those we may recognize from other lifetimes. You can, through a series of past life regressions, also discover if you are connected in other lifetimes. I also offer intuitive readings which enable me to tune in to both of you and to help you discover why you have these feelings. Let me know if I can be of further assistance. You can e-mail me directly at email@example.com for a private conversation.
hi iam jui..actually for 2014 I feel alone..I tried to love many man truly but they deceived me..during childhood I feel a person in my life..he is may be blond haired person..but I can not see him clearly in my mind..sometime I feel that may be it is my wrong think, sometime I feel that no it is not,he is my past life soulmate..will you please tell me is it true or only my thinking??
Thank you for sharing your feelings about finding a soulmate, a person you feel deeply connected to. One way to discover this is through past life regression therapy. I cannot tell you if it is true or only your thinking as you have the answer within your own soul memory. As a past life regression therapist I help you retrieve memories that may influence your present life. You might want to read “Only Love is Real” by Dr. Brian Weiss. This book may provide some insight for you about your question.
The feeling that the love of my life( so to speak), is here but only in a spiritual way. Can this happen? Can a person be so connected to a past life love that you can feel this comfort, love and happiness but only in the mind? Not wishing, not fantasies. True deep connection.
Thank you for your thoughtful and heartfelt comments. I agree with you that you can keenly feel the presence of a soulmate around you even if you have not met him/her on the physical plane. They may be incarnated or still in the world of spirit but they and you are aware of each other. Keep nurturing that connection and know that you are deeply loved and connected.
With love and light,
Is it possible for a spouse from a past life to come to you in spirit form as a guide?
Thanks for your comments. Yes, I do believe that someone you were with in a past life can come to you in spirit form as one of your guides in this lifetime. We are bonded throughout lifetimes with others in our soul group and there are times when we may be incarnated when others in the group are remaining in their immortal soul bodies between lifetimes. So glad that you read my blog and asked such an interesting question. If you’d like to talk some more, feel free to call me at 413-274-0286.
With Love and Light,

Thanks for reaching out to me. A past life regression session to discover your karmic connections to him might be very helpful at this point. Also, I recommend reading Only Love Is Realby Dr. Brian Weiss. Flashbacks are important. Pay attention to them and your intuition. Call me if you’d like to discuss this in more detail. 413-274-0286

My deepest condolences to you. Yes, it is very possible that you will reincarnate again with your husband. We travel in soul groups and reincarnate together in different relationships and situations from lifetime to lifetime.
Best wishes on your healing journey as you adjust to being with your husband in Spirit even though you can no longer have a physical relationship. I hope that you will find ways to communicate with you and discover more inner peace.I am so sorry for you loss.
With love and light,
I found it very interesting when you talked about finding soulmates from past lives in your current life and learning more about your soul in this life from it. I’ve always wondered if I had a past life and how it might affect me now. Thank you for the information about looking into such things and seeing if there are people we have karmic agreements with and can fulfill those while healing.
You’re welcome, Sherry. I’m glad that the article inspired you. Feel free to call or e-mail if you’d like to talk more about past lives and soulmates or other aspects of past life regression therapy.
Hi, so I believe that I’ve met a past-life soulmate. I met him when a little after I turned 16 and we started dating the summer before my 17th birthday, I am still 17 turning 18 next fall. We were together everything was perfect, but things didn’t work out when he went back to school because he couldn’t handle the stress of his personal duties and being with me (I live four hours ahead of him and live almost 4,000 miles away). We recently reconnected again and wanted to try and make things work, but the same issue that stopped us before kept us from following through with our desire to be together again.
I’ve been in quite a few relationships only two of them have been serious. One being my past-life soulmate that was previously mentioned and the other being an emotionally abusive, controlling, manipulative, and cheating ex boyfriend. But what every relationship, minus Blaize (past-life soulmate), has had in common is that they were just filling a void and I was in them to help make myself feel better, I know, not something I’m proud of. Another thing they all had in common was the fact that there was no real trust or deep connection. My biggest fear, although I find myself joking about it quite often, is that I’m never going to have a healthy and beautiful romantic relationship like I did with Blaize and I want him to be my life partner for this lifetime, but despite this fear, I don’t want to be in a romantic relationship unless it’s with him or at the very least someone that I have that deep of a connection with which is rare for me to find. Honestly, I don’t want anyone else, but I fear that he isn’t meant to be my life partner for this lifetime.
I know I’m only 17 and shouldn’t be focused on love or relationships and instead should be focused on my future, but I feel lost without him and I’ve stopped caring about my future in a way.
Thanks for sharing your feelings with me and for reading my blog. Although you are only 17 you seem to be very introspective and wanting to take responsibility for your feelings and actions. We have many “soulmates” that we travel with in our soul group–we change the relationships from lifetime to lifetime. Soul group members are committed to each other’s growth even if they sometimes have to endure painful lessons together. Be patient. Keep the focus on your health, education and well being. Learn to love yourself so much that you are not dependent on another’s “love” to validate your worth. You’re on the right track. Don’t let your story about your friend distract you from your own path of learning and growth. You will have lots of opportunities for relationships in this lifetime. I have loved and “lost” (through death) soulmates that I have been deeply bonded with. It hurts but I’m grateful for the time spent together, no matter how short, and the lessons learned. Just be patient, be kind to yourself, and find something to be grateful for every day.
With love and light and best wishes,
I had the strangest thing happen. I had a past life regression session last night and sort of replayed the end of a previous past life regression that I had done a few years ago. I had died in the Holocaust and in reviewing my life, I was asked why I willed myself to die. I said because everyone in my family had died, what did I have to live for? Then I was showed a man. His face was love and happiness and strength. I was told that he had been waiting for me. He was “what” I had to live for. I was also told he would come again in this life. So last night picked up there, I was shown his face. I was told that he was for me and I was for him. He completed me as I completed him but together we were more than one.Today, this guy that I believe to be him also posts about souls. Sort of eerie. Is this common?
Thanks for your post, Xanthe. When we are attuned to our past lives and to our soul group members we sometimes feel that we recognize them when they appear in this lifetime. Trust your intuition and acknowledge your feelings, remembering that you both have free will and may or may not need to be together in this lifetime. Yes, I do think it’s common when people have experienced past lives, are in tune with their soul group members, and recognize someone when they appear. It’s a great feeling. Best Wishes, Carol
Hello Carole, I haven’t had past life regression; however I did a psychic reading in regard my past lives a few months ago. And the psychic found out I had an intense romantic relationship with a soulmate in a previous life in 40s~60s Italy. We have great time and also painful separation. We were doing some sort of business in that life time, but I haven’t got more details. I plan to do a past life regression in the future to retrieve more memories about that life. This soulmate is not with me in my current life (I am now in China), we have been together as couple in more than one life (in Italy and England).
Thanks for your comments, Shuqi. I hope that having a past life regression session with a certified professional past life regression therapist will be helpful to you in understanding your connection to this soulmate and others. Let me know if I can be of assistance to you. I do conduct international past life regression sessions by phone if you’d like to work with me. Best Wishes, Carol
